This free event celebrates the incredible difference gardens can make for nature. Whether you have a large garden, a tiny courtyard, a balcony or just a few pots outside your front door, the day is designed to help you discover practical, inspiring ways to support wildlife where you live.

Over the past few months we’ve been working with local experts, growers, conservationists and community groups to create a programme that is friendly, practical and full of ideas you can take home and try yourself.

Talks and walks at The Greenhouse

Our free talks and guided walk at The Greenhouse are now open for booking:

10am – Working With Your Garden’s Natural Ecology

11.15am – Wild About Plants: A Guided Nature Walk

1pm – How to Garden for Wildlife in Outdoor Spaces Large and Small

2.30pm – Ask the Experts: Nature-Friendly Gardening Q&A

Places are limited, so we recommend reserving your free tickets in advance.

Free activities at the School House Café

Throughout the day, the School House Café will be buzzing with activities, stalls and opportunities to get involved. Drop in any time between 10am and 3pm to enjoy:

  • free hands-on activities including making a mini wildlife garden, bird boxes, lacewing houses, pebble plant markers and seed bombs
  • stalls featuring Butterfly Conservation, growing-your-own projects, a plant sale and swap, and free bike repair
  • the One Thing for Nature community photo exhibition
  • refreshments from the café while you explore the event

Explore the Pop-up Nature Garden

One of the highlights of the day will be our Pop-up Nature Garden – a real-life wildlife-friendly garden packed with ideas for helping nature, whatever size space you have. From mini ponds and pollinator planting to composting and pesticide-free gardening, it’s designed to show that even small changes can make a big difference.

Throughout the day there will be free half-hour drop-in sessions covering:

  • alternatives to pesticides, and slow worms
  • composting, healthy soil and no-dig growing
  • mini ponds and plants for pollinators
  • helping butterflies and moths in your garden
  • gardening in a changing climate

No booking is needed for these sessions – simply drop by and join whichever topic interests you.

Why we’re so excited about this event

What we love most about Cheltenham Gardens for Nature is that it brings together people who are already doing amazing things for wildlife with people who are just beginning their journey. You don’t need to be an expert gardener. You don’t need a perfect garden. You just need curiosity and a willingness to discover what nature-friendly gardening could look like in your own space.

As climate change brings increasingly unpredictable weather, creating healthier soils, more diverse planting and richer habitats for wildlife is becoming more important than ever. This event is about sharing practical ideas, building connections and showing that every garden – however small – can play a part in helping nature recover.
