A bedroom full of seedlings: getting ready for the May Charlton Kings in Bloom plant sale

Spring may still be finding its footing, but at Charlton Kings in Bloom, the growing season has already begun, thanks to Michelle Kirby and her fellow growers.

With the enthusiasm of a true gardening enthusiast (she has been a landscaper for more than 25 years) Michelle has been hard at work planting seeds for the group’s upcoming plant sale on 16th May… shelves, tables, staging and any spare space in her bedroom, kitchen window sill and greenhouse are steadily filling up with seedlings that, in just a few months, will be ready to find new homes in gardens and allotments across the community in Charlton Kings.

For Michelle, this isn’t just a task on a to-do list, it’s something she genuinely loves. Day after day, she can be found tending to her seedlings, organising seed packets and nurturing her plug plants. Her attention to detail and excitement for the process are contagious.

Her boss, Martyn said with a smile. “She’s obsessed with planting seeds and growing.”

That passion shows in everything she does…… from watering routines to carefully labelling each tray, Michelle approaches the work with patience and pride. Every seed planted is a small promise of the varied and thriving plants that will be available at the May sale.

If the seedlings grow with even half the enthusiasm Michelle and her fellow growers bring to planting them, the plant sale is sure to be a blooming success!

The plant sale is on Saturday 16th May on Church Piece in Charlton Kings.
